With so many games available, why go with Xbox Exclusives?
With 2018 just around the corner, Microsoft has some great looking Xbox exclusives on the way. The question is, will these upcoming games as well as our existing library of exclusives be worth buying an Xbox for? before I say anything about the new games coming out, I want to do a quick run down of all the best and recent Xbox Exclusives.
The first that comes to mind is Halo 5 Guardians. This game released in 2015, and it was a big hit, however some loyal fans thought that it wasn’t true to the original feel of Halo. The interesting thing about Halo 5 Guardians, was that it made the biggest and most successful Halo launch ever with over $400 million in global sales, and pushing the franchise to over $5 billion in lifetime sales. I’ve never really gotten into Halo before, and that’s not to say that I don’t like the series but I always seemed to have found more interesting FPS games instead. When I first played Halo 5 Guardians, my experience of the game changed. I was suprised by how smooth the movement system was, and the inclusion of the REQ system which gave players a way to make more tactical decisions on the battlefield. I loved the addition of a mantling system which was great for maneuvering around the map faster. The Esports scene for this game was also very populated and interesting to watch. Halo 5 Guardians is no doubt a great game, and if you’re getting an Xbox One, I would highly recommend checking it out.
The next big game as well as franchise for Xbox is gears of War 4. This one launched in 2016, and did ok. The game was pretty good but profits weren’t. Nonetheless, There was a big Esports pro league scene for the game and that played out really well. As with Halo, Gears of War has a big and passionate fanbase which is always beneficial for newcomers. I’ve played the game a bit, the graphics are very good, and the game also supports HDR if your TV is capable. I found the story in the game to be one of the best I have ever experienced in a videogame, and mechanics for the cover based shooting were a nice refresh to what I had been used to. If you like a good story, fun boss battles, and awesome graphics, then this might be a good addition to your Xbox One. These games are great, but my all time favorite Xbox Exclusive has to be Forza Horizon 3.
I got into racing games with the first Forza Horizon, and have been hooked on them ever since. Forza is literally the biggest motorsport racing franchise in the world, and it’s awesome for many reasons. Check out my review of the game here. No other racing game on the market compares to the level of detail and authenticity that Forza delivers with their cars, audio sounds, and world detail. I think the best of Forza comes from their three open world games, and the third being released in 2016 which is the biggest so far. It’s a lot of fun to have over 300 cars to choose from, and to have the massive country of Australia to explore them in. If you have any interest at all in cars or racing or both, then I guarantee this game would be good for you. Halo 5 Guardians, Gears of War 4, and Forza Horizon 3 are all amazing games with a ton of value, but if you already have them or are looking for some fresh new titles, then here’s a few that might be worth getting hyped about.
The next Xbox Exclusives title has been delayed a bit, but the developers of CupHead are working hard at making this game into a success. The game will be released on September 29 of 2017. Check out my review of the game here. CupHead is a 2D side scrolling platformer game that looks almost as good as New Super Mario Bros which is my favorite platformer of all time. It should also be noted that CupHead is an Xbox Play Anywhere title. This game looks interesting because the visuals, theme and gameplay look super new and fresh. I love the 1930’s theme, and how there’s unique looking boss battles as well. There will also be co-op within this game, so it’ll be perfect for couch gaming with friends, as well as online. I think CupHead will do good because it’s got a lot of new content in it, and things we as gamers haven’t seen before which always pushes the industry forward. If you’re looking for a cheaper game with a fun theme, and intuitive gameplay, then CupHead could be worth saving up for.
The one Xbox Exclusives title that I’m super pumped for is Sea of Thieves. This Indie title is an open world co-op game coming out in early 2018. The game is all about roaming the high seas with your crew, stealing treasure, exploring the ocean, and fighting other players in the world. This game is also an Xbox Play Anywhere title so if you want to play it on either your Xbox One or PC you can. I think this game presents itself in a really good way with how the co-op is fundamental to the game, the dynamic weather systems in the ocean look super cool, and the exploration is present above and below the waves. As an open world game lover, I would definitely recommend it if you like pirate themes, simple intuitive game mechanics, and treasure hunting.
Lastly, Crackdown 3 is an upcoming Xbox Exclusives title that will be available in spring of 2018, and boy does this game look interesting. It’s an open world sandbox game where you’re fighting criminals in an island paradise with an emphasis on world destructability. The developers say that the multiplayer enviromments will be 100% destructable which could get pretty crazy and awesome. There’s also going to be 4 player online co-op so you and your friends can team up to save the city. Once again, this will be an Xbox Play Anywhere title so you do have options. Crackdown 3 looks like it’ll be a very power intensive game and is going to fully utilize the Xbox One X to run in HDR and 4k resolution which will be awesome. If you’re looking for a game with upgradeable heroes, crazy amounts of destruction, and a character with the voice acting of Terry Crews, then this is probably the game for you. These are a few of the existing, and upcoming Xbox Exclusive titles. So hopefully I gave you some good reasons to go with Xbox, Check out my review of the Xbox One S if you’re interested, and let me know what exclusives you’re looking forward to in the comments below!
